DESCRIPTION:
From Sri Vijay Kapoor: “I am once again honored to be invited to hold a 1-week retreat at Saylorsburg, this time for experienced students. Perhaps Swami Viditatmanandaji feels that I, both as a direct disciple of Pujya Swami Dayanandaji, and also a householder can add a unique perspective to the study of Advaita Vedanta. I took the 2 1⁄2 year course at Piercy in 1979-1982 and have been teaching in the Bay Area, currently to about 150 students, online. I feel even more honored that Swamiji has asked me to take an advanced text in the retreat, Adi Sankara’s Aparoksha Anubhuti. To coincide with this retreat, Swamiji is releasing his own book of commentary on Aparoksha Anubhuti. This will be given to all attendees.
This is a highly acclaimed work by Adi Sankara, that in 144 verses (Based on the advice by Swamiji, I will take up selected verses) explains why even a lifetime of study often does not yield a direct cognition of the timeless self. What takes this necessary, but only foundational study to a fruitful sense of freedom and joy is the subject of this text. It clearly lays out what one may be missing, how to think, how to discriminate between I the reality and my experiences as mithya. The text ends with a masterful step-by-step advice on how to do Vedantic meditation. This we will do during the retreat.”
